“Great Potential” – Former Player Urges Caution When It Comes To Highly Rated Leeds Youngster

|

Leeds United fans have plenty of high hopes for Academy graduate Ryan Edmondson, but those who expected him to make more of a breakthrough under manager Marcelo Bielsa in the Championship campaign of 2019/20 have been left sorely disappointed.

Despite only having Patrick Bamford and on loan Arsenal starlet Eddie Nketiah in the mix for the top line, our Argentine gaffer has rarely turned to the 18-year-old talent, even when it comes to a place on the bench – but he continues to perform well for Carlos Corberan at Under 23 level.

Speaking recently to the LS11 Podcast, former player Ben Parker talked up the development potential of the young lad, but insisted that plenty of patience was still required as he continues to learn his trade and improve his game.

“It’s always funny. People score in the under-23s and automatically, they’re getting pushed forward. I just think just let him continue doing what he’s doing. Again, great potential. He could play at the club for a number of years. There’s no point rushing these players through, just let them develop at their own rate. There’s one person that’ll know when he’s ready and that’s Bielsa. Let him continue scoring goals. I spoke to him yesterday. He was saying he was enjoying working hard, he’s enjoying getting the last couple of goals he’s got for the under-23s.”

Parker is right on one count, ultimately whilst Bielsa is in the hot seat the decision is solely his and if he doesn’t feel Edmondson is ready just yet, then simply put, who are we to judge.

He may well be the future, but it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the now.
